Consider a future where men and women are treated equally. A world without prejudice, stereotypes, or discrimination. A varied, equal, and inclusive world. A world in which diversity is cherished and celebrated. We can achieve women's equality by working together. We can all work together to achieve our goals. as paraphrased here, this is the message that will welcome you to the international women's day website.

Growing up in northern Nigeria will make you understand the importance of that statement. Not being sentimental, northern Nigeria has had above a fair share of women inequality, not insinuating certain percentage in inequality is okay though but take a look at some of the beliefs about women in Arewa, from belonging to the kitchen to being the property of the male child to some extend, no education is being given to women base on the notion that to what use will that be since she is only going to function as a housewife!

I have never seen wrong and biased stereotyping other than this one. 

Northern Nigeria, which adopted Sharia law in 1999, has remained conservative, imposing substantial cultural and social restrictions. Despite these difficulties of equality, women's voices are increasingly being heard in virtually every facet of Northern Nigerian entertainment.

Still, we have women in northern Nigeria who dare the status quo and have proven that yes, gender equality should be a Nigerian thing because they have risen to the height that is across the bar right now.

This article is meant to celebrate these certain categories not just for anything but because Arewa women still rise even when all odds were against them, they rise!

Amina Mohammed: Amina J. Mohammed is the United Nations' Deputy Secretary-General and Chair of the UN Sustainable Development Group.

Mohammed previously served as the Minister of Environment of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, where she oversaw the country's climate action and environmental protection activities.

Amina Jane Mohammed was born on June 27th, 1961, in Liverpool, England, to a Hausa-Fulani Nigerian veterinarian and a British nurse. She is the eldest daughter in a family of five.

Mohammed attended primary schools in Nigeria's Kaduna and Maiduguri, as well as the Isle of Man's Buchan School. In 1989, she went on to Henley Management College. Her father asked that she return to Nigeria when she finished her studies.

Hon. Beni Butmak Lar: Beni Lar is a politician from Plateau State, Nigeria, who belongs to the People's Democratic Party. She was born on August 12, 1967. She is a member of the Nigerian Federal House of Representatives, representing the Plateau State federal constituency of Langtang North and Langtang South. She was initially elected to the House of Representatives in 2007, and she was re-elected to a fourth term in 2019.
