Although it is uncommon, snow does fall on several places of Africa. Lesotho, a tiny, landlocked nation inside the borders of South Africa, is one country in Africa where snowfall has been documented. Lesotho is the only nation in the world that is entirely above 1,000 meters in elevation; it is a mountainous nation with an average elevation of over 1,800 meters (5,905 feet). The country consequently has cold, wet winters and scorching, dry summers due to its highland climate.

Lesotho experiences regular snowfall during the winter, and the country occasionally experiences severe snowfall, especially in the higher elevations. Other places of Africa, such as the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, the Bale Mountains in Ethiopia, and the Ruwenzori Mountains in Uganda, have also experienced snowfall in addition to Lesotho. However, these occurrences are uncommon, frequently confined, and infrequent.

Does It Snow in Nigeria?

Nigeria has a tropical climate and is positioned close to the equator, hence snow is uncommon there. Snow is still a possibility in Nigeria, especially at higher altitudes in the southeast and center of the country. In Nigeria, snowfall normally occurs in extremely small amounts and doesn't persist long. Additionally, it is highly unusual; in the past, there have only been a few reports of snowfall in Nigeria.

Does it Snow in South Africa?

While it is possible to experience snow in some regions of South Africa, doing so is often uncommon and only happens there occasionally and during particular periods of the year. The country's highest altitudes, particularly the mountain ranges in the provinces of the Western and Eastern Cape, and the Drakensberg Mountains in KwaZulu-Natal, are where snowfall is most likely to occur. Although snow can fall during other times of the year, it is more likely to fall in these places during the winter (June to August). It snows very infrequently in the lower-lying areas of the nation, such as the coastal regions.

List of countries snow fall in Africa

Due to the majority of the continent being covered by tropical or subtropical climates with consistently warm temperatures, snowfall is not common in Africa. However, snow is a possibility in several regions of the continent, especially at higher altitudes. African nations that have experienced snowfall include:

  1. Algeria: Although snowfall is uncommon there, it has been known to happen at the country's higher elevations, such as the Atlas Mountains.
  2. Ethiopia: The highlands of Ethiopia frequently experience snowfall, especially in the Simien Mountains and the Bale Mountains.
  3. Lesotho: Situated in the Drakensberg Mountains, Lesotho is a tiny, landlocked nation that is encircled by South Africa. Lesotho has snowfall frequently, especially during the winter.
  4. In Morocco's highest altitudes, such as the Atlas Mountains, snowfall is conceivable.
  5. In some regions of South Africa, snowfall is conceivable, especially in the Drakensberg Mountains in KwaZulu-Natal and the mountain ranges in the Western and Eastern Cape provinces.

Although it is uncommon, snowfall has been reported to occur at Tunisia's higher elevations, such as the Atlas Mountains. It's vital to keep in mind that snowfall in Africa is often uncommon and only happens in a few places at specified periods of the year.
